Discover the beauty of the Bayou in a workshop experience that is uniquely captivating. Gliding amongst giant cypress trees hundreds of years old, branches decked with colorful foliage and adorned by the gossamer of hanging moss. As mist rises from the water of the flooded forest it creates an ethereal landscape with innumerable photographic opportunities. Soft light filtering through the branches, reflections dancing in the calm waters, the sense of serenity of this landscape is unparalleled.

We will be in time to witness the autumn glory as the myriad hues of the season fill the landscape with vibrance. There is a plethora of wildlife with 65 different species of amphibians and reptiles, 250 species of birds including the majestic Bald eagle. Each day we will be exploring a different location. We stay at a beautiful bed and breakfast place that offers delicious country breakfast included in tour price.

Activity Level : Mild. Prior kayaking experience useful but not mandatory. We do easy paddling on calm water for short distances. Larger distances are traversed in a comfortable pontoon boat. There will always be the option to explore and photograph while on a boat.

The small group workshop is set up to incorporate hands on learning for both acquisition of images in the field as well as optimal post processing for image rendition. Each participant is encouraged to identify their personal style and fine tune individual creative vision.

Each day we will be chasing the weather and light for optimal atmospheric conditions. Every single day has dedicated class room time to work on image critique and postprocessing. This is one workshop where every individual will receive one on one time to work on individual goals.

Itinerary Summary

Oct 25th: 4 pm meeting time. We head out on a Pontoon boat to shoot sunset.

Oct 26th, 27th, 28th : Multiple outings for shooting during periods of angled light using spacious pontoon boat as well as individual kayaks. Post processing is done mid day on a daily basis.

Oct 29th: Sunrise shoot. Workshop concludes with breakfast.

We will be using both individual kayaks as well as boats to access different areas of the Bayou. The one person kayaks are stable and easy to maneuver. The locations we get to are an easy paddle and require mild effort. To access areas that are distant on the lake we have a dedicated pontoon boat for exclusive use with plenty of room for everyone to spread out with their gear. This combination of using kayaks and boats gives us the unique advantage of being able to cover a lot of territory as well as get into smaller inlets. Each day will have dedicated sunrise and sunset shoots. Light and weather permitting shooting time may be extended as needed. Post processing sessions will be done mid day. All kayak rental costs, guiding, and outfitting for boat tours is included. Breakfasts are included

Note - We stay at a wonderful bed and breakfast place with delicious breakfast included along with accommodations for 4 nights.

Cancellation Policy

If workshop is canceled by organizer due to unforeseen circumstances a full refund will be issued. If canceled by participant 6 months prior to workshop deposit can be transferred to a different workshop with availability. No refunds or credit offered for cancellations within 6 months of start of workshop.
